Artist of the Season: winter 2023-24

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a mixed media artist living and working in Chicago.  I am passionate about creating artwork that incorporates traditional fiber arts of quilling and embroidery with watercolor paint.  I have an unrestrained love of color and the joy it brings.  Each painting begins with shapes and layers of watercolor.  During the final phase of the piece, I add a layer of fibers, buttons and quilling papers onto my painted watercolor designs to give energy and life to the patterns and shapes.

MY WORK

My work is divided into four collections:  Fish Story, Community, Buttons, and Ovals

  • Fish Story was inspired by the journey I’ve been on searching for freedom.  It’s the river we swim, sometimes exhausting and unbearably painful.  Ultimately, it’s the ocean where we swim freely, unburdened.

  • Community is about honoring values, finding the place I call home and discovering the people in my tribe.

  • Buttons is an exploration of self.

  • Ovals embraces unpredictability and playfulness.
