ARTIST STATEMENT

My name is Rebecca Gauvin and I am currently studying astronomy & astrophysics at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

My passion for the arts has always been supported since my elementary school days at Davenport School of the Arts. It was there that I also received a scholarship to attend Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. My love for art & space have been merged together ever since.

The arts positively influenced my mental health in high school and the things I learned from Jeanna I was able to pass to children through working at the elementary school my mother worked in. Once I was at college, l found an amateur astronomy club and in that club is the option to learn how to use telescopes for astrophotography. After that first glimpse into the telescope I knew I wanted to learn to do it myself.

Recently, I taught myself astrophotography and have found myself on a new path of self-discovery, that like all things space, I am eager to explore. I purchased my fist camera and Star Tracker, watched a lot of videos to teach myself how to use them, and then sat out in the dark for hours taking photographs.
